During a time of unprecedented crisis, turning to previous cycles of struggle and the historical record can guide our efforts in the present. Ideas and accounts of mutual aid and social reproduction, self-defense and self-determination, the emergence of new social formations and continued movements of the poor are part and parcel for circulating these struggles and launching new front against capitalism and the state. And each of these are really good fucking reads!

  • Peter Kropotkin, Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution (Read)

  • Francis Fox Piven & Richard Cloward, Poor People's Movements: Why They Succeed, How They Fail (Read)

  • Silvia Federici, Caliban and the Witch: Women, the Body, and Primitive Accumulation (Read, Purchase)

  • Rebecca Solnit, A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities that Arise in Disaster (Purchase)

  • scott crow, Black Flags and Windmills: Hope, Anarchy, and the Common Ground Collective (Purchase)

  • Alondra Nelson, Body and Soul: The Black Panther Party and the Fight Against Medical Discrimination (Purchase)

A number of these books are available for free as PDFs, others are available for purchase for a nominal fee. Consider that radical authors and publishers are facing major challenges themselves at this moment. So, always by direct, through revolutionary distributors such as AK Press, or via local bookshops.
